The Birkbeck Science Diplomacy Initiative is a new project aiming to develop a hub for science diplomacy in London.
Birkbeck has a history of being active in science diplomacy. Over the last 13 years the Birkbeck hosted Mount Paektu Research Centre (MPRC) has led science collaboration with North Korea, building and sustaining science collaboration during one of the most turbulent geopolitical times on the Peninsula. It has given us direct experience of working within the most severe sanctions, including those targeting science specifically and is widely recognized as a case study in science for diplomacy, where science is used to build trust and understanding between countries with limited diplomatic relationships.
